Kerri Walsh Jennings And April Ross Partners No More
Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross have ended their beach volleyball partnership.
According to an article by the Associated Press, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross have ended their partnership.
Walsh Jennings recently refused to sign the Association of Volleyball Professionals player contract, which required a four-year commitment and would prevent the athlete from playing on any competing tours.
"We're being kept in a small little fishbowl," Walsh Jennings told the AP. "I know our sport deserves more. We've been told we're small, and we believe it."
As a result of Walsh Jennings' abstention from the tour, Ross had to pick up a different partner to play with in this week's AVP Huntington Beach Open. Although Ross and Walsh Jennings could have continued to play together internationally, that does not appear to be the decision made by the pair of Olympians who formed their partnership in 2013.
"April and I are finished," Walsh Jennings said to the AP. "We're not competing together anymore."
Despite rumors that have hinted at Walsh Jennings' imminent retirement, she assured the AP that she aiming for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The next step will be to find a new partner.
Ross will play the Huntington Beach Open with Whitney Pavlik.
