A Six Pack Of Six Packs: The Best In Your Face Volleyball Moments
Our lineup of the six most hilarious and brutal volleyball shots to the face. A six pack of six packs for your enjoyment.
By Marc Raimondi
You’ve been there, right? Taking a volleyball off the head is kind of like a rite of passage for players. With the dawn of social media, though, that kind of embarrassment can be viewed by the masses.
That’s exactly what happened this week.
An indoor player from Idaho took a hard attack to the face during a club tournament in Salt Lake City. The video went viral, but mostly because there was a silver lining. Sabrina Radford got crushed in the face, but the ball fell on the opposite side for a point. Sounds like the most painful block ever.

Radford’s six pack—for the uninitiated, volleyball parlance for the whole getting-hit-in-the-head phenomenon—was pretty epic, turning anguish into adulation. It also got us thinking. What are some of the best six pack videos in recent years? Let’s take a look.
Triple Six Pack
This one is almost hard to believe. It’s like a 3-for-1 deal. Not just one player got smacked in the dome—three did. The highlight is complete with slow-motion instant replay, to make sure that all three guys did indeed get six packed. We think the hitter should have gotten extra points for that.
Down the Line
Call the paramedics for this dude. He might have some whiplash. Ouch. This six pack looks like one of those UFC knockout highlights except instead of a swinging fist, there’s a volleyball. Brutal.
How about an Olympic volleyball headshot? We got you covered. This one is from way back in the vault, but it’s pretty noteworthy considering this Russian player had a hard time getting up afterward. That Polish hitter must be a beast.
Finnish-ed
You don’t see this very often. This six pack comes off a block rather than an attack in an international matchup between Finland and the Netherlands. The libero from the former team was the victim. You could say he was Finnish-ed.
Love Tap
There’s nothing particularly impactful about this six pack. The blocker barely sustained a bruise. It was more like a love tap. But the fact this six pack was performed by former Miami Heat player—and one of the biggest NBA Draft busts of all time—Greg Oden makes it that much more hilarious. Injuries have ravaged Oden’s basketball career, but maybe he has some kind of future on the beach. We doubt it.
No six pack compilation is complete without Scott Sterling, the king of the volleyball headshots. “Sterling” is a character played by BYU student Matt Meese, so this footage didn’t come from an actual match, and he might not have taken all those shots to the noggin—and good thing, because that would have been a concussion and a half—but he does deserve credit for his ingenuity and bringing the six pack to the mainstream.
