A second sample taken earlier this morning confirmed a positive drug test for Italian beach volleyball player Viktoria Orsi Toth, who will be suspended through the Olympic Games.
A second sample taken earlier this morning confirmed a positive drug test for Italian beach volleyball player Viktoria Orsi Toth.
This positive second test for the anabolic steroid clostebol metabolite means Orsi Toth will remain suspended from competition and miss the Rio Olympics. She has already left Rio to return to Italy.
Orsi Toth and her partner Marta Menegatti were ranked seventh in the FIVB World Tour rankings and were scheduled to kick off their Olympics appearance on Sunday versus Canada's Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas.
Former University of Washington outside hitter Rebecca Perry, who became a naturalized Italian citizen eight months ago, will replace Orsi Toth and compete with Menegatti in the Olympics. The 27-year-old chose to become a naturalized Italian citizen after Karch Kiraly informed her she would not be training with the USA women's national team. She has played indoor volleyball professionally in Korea, Puerto Rico, Germany, Italy and Poland, and she switched over to the beach game earlier this year.
