The top American women's beach volleyball team of Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 Olympics with a 2-0 victory over Marta Menegatti and Laura Giombini of Italy.

Ross led the match with 16 kills in the 21-10, 21-16 victory in front of 8,599 fans on Copacabana Beach. The USA duo will next face the winner of Poland's Kinga Kolosinska/Monika Brzostek and Australia's Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy, who play tomorrow at 10 p.m. ET.

Ross and Walsh Jennings have an enthusiastic fan base, which turned to social media to express its excitement about the victory, and voice its opinion about the attention paid to female beach volleyball players' uniforms.
