USA Women's Volleyball Wins Bronze
The USA women's volleyball team won the 2016 Olympics bronze medal match in four sets over the Netherlands.
The USA women's volleyball team took the court at Maracanãzinho for the 2016 Olympics bronze medal match as if it had never lost to Serbia in the semifinals. Although that crushing five-set defeat occurred only two days ago, the USA women were able to clear their minds and win the bronze medal over the Netherlands 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 25-19.
Foluke Akinradewo rejoined the starting lineup after injuring her knee early in the semifinal Thursday and sitting out the remainder of the match. She played exceptionally well, tying Jordan Larson and Kim Hill for a team-high 13 kills. Rachael Adams, although still struggling behind the service line, added five blocks and eight kills.
This is the fourth Olympic medal for the USA women's volleyball team, adding a second bronze to the one earned in Barcelona in 1992 and three silvers (Los Angeles, 1984; Beijing, 2008; London, 2012).
