Collegiate Beach Bash: Meet the Spring Hill Badgers
The Spring Hill College beach volleyball team is one of six NCAA teams to compete in the fall exhibition Collegiate Beach Bash.
The Collegiate Beach Bash is a fall exhibition college beach volleyball tournament hosted by RallyVB in Emerson, Georgia, and featuring six East Coast NCAA teams.
FloVolleyball will be live-streaming all the action from the LakePoint Sporting Community, beginning at 9 AM ET on Saturday, November 12.
Each day leading up to the first serve at LakePoint, we'll profile one of the teams that will participate in the Collegiate Beach Bash.
So far, we've introduced the UNC Wilmington and University of Alabama-Birmingham squads. Next up, the Badgers of Spring Hill College.
2015 marked the first year of competition for the Spring Hill beach volleyball team. One of only nine Division II colleges to sponsor the sport, Spring Hill went 4-13 its first season and improved to 9-13 in 2016.
Shawn Taylor, an assistant for the Spring Hill indoor team, will serve as the coach of the "Sandy Badgers" at the Collegiate Beach Bash.
The 2017 Spring Hill beach volleyball roster features 10 freshmen in addition to 11 upperclassmen. Of those 21 players, 14 will make the trip to Georgia for the Collegiate Beach Bash.
1. Hannah Masoner and Julie Vujnovich
Julie Vujnovich played at the No. 1 spot with Madison Seuzeneau throughout the 2016 season, accumulating an overall record of 7-15. The 5-foot-9 Camden, Tennessee, native will test out her chemistry with Hannah Masoner during the Collegiate Beach Bash. Masoner played at the No. 2 and 3 spots with Molly Griffin last spring, with an overall record of 7-11.
2. Madison Seuzeneau and Brittany Bilotti
Senior Madison Seuzeneau will be partnered with freshman Brittany Bilotti. Seuzeneau played with Vujnovich at the No. 1 spot in 2016 and led the indoor team in kills this year with 254.
3. Savannah Becnel and Cassidi Sterrett
Sophomore Savannah Becnel sat out the 2015-16 indoor and beach volleyball seasons with a medical redshirt. Heading into 2017, Becnel, who plays middle indoors and had the third-most kills on this year's indoor team, will try out her chemistry with 5-7 freshman Cassidi Sterrett.
4. Payton Gidney and Sarah Senft
Payton Gidney, a freshman from Grapevine, Texas, and Sarah Senft, a freshman from Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, both made contributions to the 2016 indoor squad with Senft finishing the season as the second-highest kills producer on the roster.
5. Emily Greim and Caroline Herrera
Redshirt freshman Caroline Herrera, a 5-9 middle/outside for the court squad, played most of the 2016 season at the No. 4 spot with partner Sara Brodner. This weekend, she'll pair up with Emily Greim, a 5-9 sophomore middle, who finished the 2016 beach season with a 5-7 record playing at the No. 5 spot with various partners.
6. Taylor Hurst and Catherine Milwee
Freshman Taylor Hurst hails from the home of the NCAA beach volleyball national championship: Gulf Shores, Alabama. The 5-11 outside hitter had 98 kills and hit .365 for the indoor team this fall. Her partner for the Beach Bash, Catherine Milwee, played at the No. 4 and 5 spots during the 2016 beach season, and finished with a 6-15 overall record.
7. Patty Blood and Sarah Szostak
Freshman Sarah Szostak served as captain of her CIF runner-up beach volleyball team at Point Loma High School in San Diego, California. Her fellow frosh, Patty Blood, hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, and saw playing time in 16 matches in the 2016 indoor season, starting in three.
