The season's initial qualifier for USA Volleyball's Girls' Junior National Championships happened over the weekend and the first three 15 Open bids were claimed as a result.

Asics MAVS 15-1 took home the championship hardware from the Asics Colorado Crossroads in Denver. TAV 15 Black and Dynasty 15 Black nabbed the other two bids thanks to second and third place finishes.

OTVA 15 South Rox Red maintained its hold on a top spot in the rankings with an impressive showing at the Triple Crown Sports National Invitational in Utah on Presidents Day weekend. OTVA went 8-0 and dropped just one set on its way to winning the tournament.  

Lions 15-1 won the Mizuno Sports Performance Presidents Day Challenge in Illinois, and Rockwood Thunder 15 Mizuno seized the Nike Presidents Day Classic crown in St. Louis.  

Asics MAVS 15-1 added to its strong start to the season by winning the Asics Presidents Day Classic in Omaha.

More USAV bids will be handed out at MEQ (Indianapolis), Pacific Northwest Qualifier (Spokane, Washington) and Big South (Atlanta), March 31-April 2, 2017. JVA tournaments coming up include the Peachtree Classic (Georgia), AAU Grand Prix (Maryland), Central Finale (Illinois), and the Great Lakes Festival (Michigan).
