Only a day after winning their 100th consecutive college match, USC beach volleyball’s top beach volleyball pair of Sara Hughes and Kelly Claes lost their first match in almost two years.


Saint Marys’ No. 1 team of Lindsey Knudsen and Payton Rund, both sophomores, beat Claes and Hughes 13-21, 21-18, 17-15, on a very windy Manhattan Beach in the final day of the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge.

With wins at the No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 flights, USC remained undefeated as a team, increasing their streak to 55, 25-0 so far this season.

Five regular-season matches remain in the season for Claes and Hughes and the Trojan squad.
