The AVP's second stop of the 2017 will take place in Austin, Texas, on May 18-21. Here are fun facts about the tournament to get you pumped up for the weekend's pro beach volleyball action.
The AVP's second stop of the 2017 takes place in Austin, Texas, on May 18-21. Here are fun facts about the tournament to get you pumped up for the weekend's pro beach volleyball action.
1. It has been 12 years since the AVP has stopped in Austin; the last time the tour came to the Texas capital was in 2005.
5. Some of the athletes who played in the 2005 Austin Open will compete once again the Live Music Capitol of the World this year, including Dalhausser and Lucena, Sean Rosenthal, Ed Ratledge, Reid Priddy, Adam Roberts, Priscilla Piantadosi-Lima, and Jen Fopma.

2. The AVP tour has been to Austin four times previously, in 1992, 1993, 2004, and 2005.
3. Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena and Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh-Jennings won the AVP Austin Open in 2005.
4. The 2005 AVP Austin Open was held at Auditorium Shores in downtown Austin, and this year it is held at Krieg Fields on the east side.
5. Some of the athletes who played in the 2005 Austin Open will compete once again the Live Music Capitol of the World this year, including Dalhausser and Lucena, Sean Rosenthal, Ed Ratledge, Reid Priddy, Adam Roberts, Priscilla Piantadosi-Lima, and Jen Fopma.

6. Many NCAA beach volleyball athletes who just finished competing in the 2017 NCAA beach season are signed up to compete in Austin, including Delaney Knudsen (Pepperdine), Nicolette Martin (USC), Allie Wheeler (USC), Taylor Bradley (LSU), Maddy Ligon (LSU), Alexa Richardson (Stetson), Carly Perales (Stetson), Jamie Walsh (Stetson), Hannah Towne (Grand Canyon), and Megan Rice (Florida Atlantic).

7. In addition to Austin, pro beach volleyball tournaments have been hosted in Texas cities Corpus Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.
