The 2017 FIVB U23 World Championship will be a testing ground for new rules. The FIVB Board of Administration made the decision to experiment with a new match format and a couple of rule changes at the age group championship, which will be held August 18-25 in Egypt for the men and September 10-17 in Slovenia for the women.
Instead of playing best-of-five sets to 25 points as is standard now, the U23 World Championship matches will be best of seven with each set to 15 points. Additionally, when jump serving, the players will be required to land in front of the service line, and when hitting from the back row, the attacker will have to land in front of the three-meter line.
