The Montreux Volley Masters brings some of the best women's volleyball teams in the world together in the Swiss Riviera to kick off the 2017 international season, and FloVolleyball will be streaming the action LIVE.
 
Here are four reasons you should tune in, starting Tuesday, June 6, at 10:30 AM ET.


 

1. This is the first big-time international women's volleyball tournament since the Rio Olympics.

 
World No. 1-ranked China, which won the gold medal in Rio, is the reigning Montreux Volley Masters champion and was awarded one of the tournament's two top seeds. Brazil, ranked fourth in the world, earned the top seed in the second pool.
 
Rio Olympics competitors Netherlands and Argentina, both of which are ranked in the top 10 in the world, join Germany, Thailand, Switzerland, Poland, and Thailand to round out the field.

2. Cheer on former U.S. national team head coach Jamie Morrison as he begins his new job with the Dutch women.

 
Jamie Morrison spent time with both the U.S. men's and women's national teams before being appointed head coach of the Netherlands' women's volleyball team in February.
 
In addition to coaching with Team USA, Morrison served as assistant coach for Turkish club VakifBank Istanbul, under Giovanni Guidetti, the previous head coach of the Dutch women.

The Netherlands had a great showing at the Rio Olympics, defeating eventual champion China and silver medalist Serbia in pool play and advancing to the bronze medal match where it lost to the U.S.
 

3. Get to know the next generation of volleyball stars.

 
In the first year of a new Olympic quad, many national teams like to give young players a chance to prove themselves on the international stage. Some of the rookies worth watching at Montreux are:

4. Witness the wisdom and skill of some of the world's most seasoned veterans.

 
There will be a lot of young talent on display at the Montreux Volley Masters, but don't forget about the veterans who coaches will be counting on to lead their young teams to success and make a statement at the first tournament of the season.
 
Although only 20, Swiss captain Laura Kunzler is the most experienced player on Switzerland's squad with 26 caps (national team appearances). She's been called one of the best Swiss volleyball players of the decade.
 
Thirty-year-old German captain Maren Brinker was named German Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016. As the most experienced player on the team, she will be key to Germany's success in Montreux.

Leaders for the Netherlands squad include Robin De Kruijf and Debby Stam-Pilon. De Kruijf, a 26-year-old, 6-foot-4 middle blocker, has been playing for the Dutch national team since 2008 and capped in more than 250 international matches. Stam-Pilon, 32, started her professional career as a hitter but made the transition to libero in 2015.

Natália Zilio Pereira will serve as captain for the Brazilian squad. The two-time Olympian helped lead Brazil to gold in London and was named Best Outside Spiker of the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix, Most Valuable Player of the 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix, and Most Valuable Player of the 2016-17 Turkish Volleyball League.

5. Familiarize yourself with Team USA' s future opponents.

 
The U.S. women's national team will face China, Netherlands, and Brazil in the World Grand Prix next month. The Montreux Volley Masters will give you a chance to get familiar with these squads before they line up across the net from the American team during Grand Prix.
 
Team USA will see Brazil again in Anaheim, California, on August 27 and 29 for the USA Volleyball Cup and will match up against both China and Brazil at the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup in Japan in early September.
