Despite 16 points from Long Beach State junior Kyle Ensing, the U.S. Men's National Team lost its NORCECA Pan-American Cup quarterfinal match versus Puerto Rico in four sets. With the loss, the U.S. team is out of contention for a medal in Gatineau, Canada.

Puerto Rico, which defeated Canada and Venezuela in pool play, won its third consecutive match of the tournament 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14.

"We weren't good enough in serve receive, and we weren't good out of system, and Puerto Rico did a nice job taking advantage of that," USA head Coach Rob Neilson said. "I thought we competed hard; we just didn't execute at a high enough level."

The USA men made 32 errors to Puerto Rico's 28. Puerto Rico led in kills 50 to 44 and aces 8-2, although the U.S. held the advantage in blocks 8 to 5.

The USA team will now face Venezuela in a classification match today at 4 PM ET. Puerto Rico will take on Cuba in the semifinals at 8 PM ET.

In the other quarterfinal match, Canada defeated Dominican Republic 25-20, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23. Casey Schouten led the Canucks with 16 points.

Canada won the bronze medal at last year's event and will seek to improve on that finish with a win in the semifinals versus Argentina, today at 6 PM ET.
