Haleigh Washington Joins Penn State's 1,000 Kill Club
Haleigh Washington surpassed 1,000 career kills in Saturday night's match between Penn State and Indiana.
Heading into Saturday night's Big Ten match versus Indiana, Penn State senior Haleigh Washington needed only four kills to join her teammates Ali Frantti and Simone Lee in the 1,000 kills club.
The No. 1-ranked Nittany Lions started slow against the Hoosiers (12-10, 1-9 Big Ten), and they were trailing 14-15 in the first set when Washington crushed her 1,000th career kill to tie the match up at 15-all and become the 28th member of the Penn State 1K kill club.
Penn State is the only Division I program with three active players boasting over 1,000 kills. The last time Penn State had a trio of 1,000 kill club members was in 2008, when Megan Hodge, Nicole Fawcett, Christa Harmotto wore the navy and white jerseys.
By the end of the match versus Indiana, which Penn State won 3-0, Washington had tallied 13 kills with only one error on 15 attempts to post an absurd .800 hitting percentage. Perhaps what is even more impressive is that it was the third time this season the senior has hit .800 or better. For the season, she's hitting .515, better than any other Division I player in the country.
