North Carolina's Julia Scoles And Mariah Evans Out For The Season
North Carolina volleyball players Julia Scoles and Mariah Evans will both sit out the remainder of the season after suffering concussions earlier this year.

Scoles, a sophomore outside hitter, and Evans, a sophomore setter, were key pieces of the 2017 Tar Heel squad that was unanimously picked to win the Atlantic Coast Conference in the preseason coaches poll and ranked No. 12 in FloVolleyball's national preseason rankings.

Evans suffered her concussion before the season even started, and Scoles played in two matches before sustaining her injury. Both players have filed for medical hardship waivers and will maintain three years of eligibility.

Without Scoles, the 2016 ACC Freshman of the Year, and Evans, a setter in the Tar Heel's 6-2 offense last season, North Carolina has struggled, going 3-5 in preseason and so far posting a 7-5 record in the ACC (tied for sixth in the conference standings).
