As the starting setter for Novi High School since the first day of her freshman season, Erin O’Leary has gotten a lot of playing time. In those four years, she racked up 5,678 assists, setting a new Michigan High School Athletic Association record.
Three out of her four high school season, O’Leary has led the Novi Wildcats to a Class A state title. Just a week before winning her third state title last month, O’Leary was named Miss Volleyball, the state’s highest honor for a high school volleyball player.
Erin O’Leary
Position: Setter
Height: 5-foot-10
High School: Novi
Club: Legacy
College Commitment: Michigan
Despite being the top volleyball player in the state of Michigan and one of the best in the country, O’Leary never considered playing college ball at anywhere but the University of Michigan.
She grew up attending camps at the U of M and serving as a ball girl for the Wolverines matches. And after her freshman season in high school, she made her verbal commitment.
“Erin's strength as a setter is that she has a great understanding of not only the physical demands of setting, but she's also really good at the mental side of that position,” Wolverine head coach Mark Rosen said. “She can locate the ball well for her hitters and has great range for getting to the ball. In addition, she has shown to be a great leader and decision maker in the heat of competition, and she's done that from a very young age.”
