Tennessee-bound outside hitter Emma Schriner is as physical as they come. Standing 6-foot-3 and touching over 10 feet, Schriner was one of only two starters returning for her Jamestown High School team this fall.
The Eagles finished runner-up in the Class 4A state tournament in 2017, and with Schriner’s leadership — along with her 484 kills, 50 blocks, 49 aces, and 158 digs — Jamestown only lost four matches on the season, making the semifinals of the state tournament.
Emma Schriner
Position: Outside Hitter
Height: 6-3
High School: Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA)
Club: Williamsburg Volleyball Club
College Commitment: Tennessee
The former middle blocker made the transition to outside hitter in order to acclimate to the position she’ll be playing at Tennessee, but her years of experience as a middle is what makes her such a formidable blocker and a player who can run a variety of plays in the front row.
She’s also deadly from the service line, switching between a deceptive jump float and a hard-drive jump topspin serve.
“[Emma’s] 6-foot-3 frame and 10-foot-3 jump touch will allow her to come in and compete physically at the net her freshman year,” Tennessee head coach Rob Patrick said. “Emma has made the decision to start in January with our program, which will only hasten her development. Being a former middle hitter, she has the ability to attack the ball across the entire net off of one foot or two."
Schriner was named the 2017 Class 4A Player of the Year at the conclusion of her senior season, adding that honor to the 2016 Atlantic Coast Power League MVP she earned as a junior. This fall, Schriner also surpassed the 1,000 kills mark in her high school career.
