Not many athletes enter college as complete a six-rotation player. But Jenna Wenaas is the exception. The outside hitter from Liberty High School, who will start her college career at Minnesota next fall, can attack from the front and back row, score from behind the service line, and play defense and receive serve.

Prior to the fall slate, Wenaas traveled to Mexico with the U.S. junior national team to compete in the U20 World Championships, where she was a starting outside, beating out top-ranked players in the class ahead of her. Ranked No. 3 in 2020, Wenaas won the 2019 USA Volleyball junior national title in 18 Open with her TAV team, earning the MVP honor in the division.

“Jenna Wenaas brings strength and skill to the outside hitting position,” Minnesota head coach Hugh McCutcheon said. “She absolutely knows how to work, learn, and compete. She is phenomenal at the net, she hits with a ton of heat and range, and she's developed a great all-around game to compliment that.”
“I always loved traveling to Minneapolis for volleyball tournaments as I was able to see everything the city had to offer, and the University of Minnesota will give me the opportunity to explore it further,” Wenaas said. “Playing in the Big Ten quickly became something I desired, as every game is a big game, especially in the Pav where we can rally off of huge crowds. I believe that kind of atmosphere cannot be found anywhere else.”
Last month, Wenaas added yet another major award to her resume: First Team Under Armour All-American. She’ll compete alongside the 23 other first teamers in the All-America Match on New Year’s Eve.
