Huge Upsets on the Beach in Rio

Beach Volleyball Upsets in Rio

Everybody loves a good upset and today's beach volleyball action from the 2016 Rio Olympics has already brought us two.

Canada's Chaim Schalk and Ben Saxton pulled out a three-set victory over Brazilians and tournament No. 4 seeds Pedro Solberg Salgado and Evandro Goncalves. Pedro and Evandro are now 0-2 and it's possible they would fail to break out of pool play, despite being medal favorites.

Cuba's Diaz Gomez Nivaldo Nadir and Sergio Reynaldo Gonzalez Bayard also snagged an unexpected win today over Latvia's Janis Smedins and Aleksandrs Samoilovs. The Cubans are the 21 seed in the tournament and have only played in two FIVB tournaments ever. And at only 22 and 26, they are rookies by age as well. The final score versus the Latvians was 23-21, 19-21, 15-9.
