Brazil Wins Montreux Volley Masters
Brazil avenged a pool play loss to Germany in the championship match of the 2017 Montreux Volley Masters tournament in Switzerland. The South American team took down the European squad 25-21, 25-18, 25-20, to win the gold medal in the first big women’s international tournament of the year.
Brazil far out-blocked Germany in the championship match, putting away 14 stuffs to Germany’s five. Rosamaria Montibeller led the winning team with 11 kills, three aces, and a block.
In the third-place match, China defeated Argentina 3-1 (25-21, 25-12, 20-25, 25-19) to win the Montreux bronze medal. China, which won the Montreux Volley Masters event last year, was led by Xiangyu Gong with 17 points, while Argentina’s Paula Yamila Nizetich led the match with 23 total points.
