FloVolleyball’s Big Ten Player of The Month: Carly Skjodt
The 2017 season didn’t start out great for the Michigan Wolverines and their star outside hitter Carly Skjodt. In the first two months of play, they faced seven ranked opponents and came out on the losing end of each of those meetings.
But in November, things started to turn around, largely thanks to some stellar performances from junior outside hitter Skjodt, who is FloVolleyball’s Big Ten Player of the Month for November.
On November 11, Michigan won its first five-set match of the season, taking down Illinois thanks to Skjodt’s team-high 18 kills.
That win kick-started a five-match win streak that took Michigan through the end of the regular season and featured wins over then No. 8-ranked Michigan State and back-to-back consecutive wins over then No. 15-ranked Purdue. Skjodt led the team in kills in all but one of those five matches, and on November 21, after hitting a blistering .351 with 17 kills in Michigan’s sweep of Michigan State, the junior was named Big Ten Player of the Week and AVCA National Player of the Week.
On the season, Skjodt lead the Wolverines with 433 kills, hitting .240, and ranked second on the team with 273 digs.
