Jaden Whitmarsh didn’t inherit her father’s height, but in the 5-foot-8 outside hitter you can see a lot of Mike Whitmarsh, a 6-7 professional beach volleyball player and Olympic silver medalist who passed away in 2009.

Camryn Tastad is a thorn in the side of opposing teams’ hitters. The 5-foot-3 libero from Santa Fe Christian High School in Solana Beach, California, racked up 479 digs in her senior season, and in her career she’s tallied more than 1,000 saves — a feat she’ll seek to repeat in college at the University of Oregon.

Yes, they play volleyball in Montana. No, they don’t ride horses to volleyball practice. In fact, Raegan Steiner would like you to know that high school volleyball is very much alive and kicking in a state better known for rodeo, skiing and — until recently — basketball. Steiner should know: the 6-foot-0 opposite from Billings Senior High is the first Montanan ever selected to the AVCA Under Armor High School All-American team.

Becoming the first Under Armour High School All-American from the state of Montana is the perfect way to conclude Raegan Steiner’s prep volleyball career.

Adanna Rollins led Hebron High School to the 6A Texas state championship last year as a junior and was named the MVP of the tournament. To get an idea of what Ade’ Owokoniran’s contributions at the collegiate level might be like when she makes her debut at Duke next fall, think of Danielle Cuttino of Purdue. Like Cuttino, Owokoniran is a middle blocker with the skill and athleticism to play on the outside, while putting on a display of explosive power when in the middle.

Charley Niego’s motto is, “It’s not how big you are but how big you play.” At 6-foot-1, Niego has good size, but her talent and skill on the volleyball court makes her larger than life.

According to Minnesota head coach Hugh McCutcheon, CC McGraw is the best libero in the class of 2018. Not that he’s biased in favor of his future Gopher, of course.

She's never the tallest player on the court, but Marissa Hornung is often the most talented. Playing for Providence High School in Clarksville, Indiana, the 5-foot-8 outside hitter has won three state championships, is a three-time first-team all-state honoree, and led her team in digs and kills this fall as the captain and sole senior on the roster.
